On the occasion of the second anniversary of the westward relocation, a series of activities were held in the publicity month for remembering the westward relocation by the Department of Retirement Affairs. All the retired faculty actively participated in activities of “Salute to the Westward Relocation”, telling the story, describing the figures and carrying forward the spirit of westward relocation, aiming at deepening the understanding of the Westward Relocation Spirit by the teachers and students, and inheriting the spirit in future construction of the university.

On September 9, 2018, as the professor representatives of the Westward Relocation, the couple of Professor Zheng Shouqi and Professor Sheng Jianni attended “The 34th Teacher's Day Celebration and Outstanding Teachers Commendation Conference in Xi'an”. Wang Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Chair of Xi'an Municipal Committee, met the two professors and retold the unforgettable story of the westward relocation of the Jiaotong University as well as the dedication of all XJTUers to the construction of northwest China.

On September 10, 2018, the “Westward Relocation Spirit Calligraphy Exhibition and In-kind Donation Ceremony by the Teachers in the Westward Relocation” were held at Xi’an Jiaotong University Museum. Senior scholars including Jin Jing, Shi Weixiang, Tang Lisen, Wang Guiqin, Chen Tingkuan, Chen Hengyuan, Wang Kefa, and Zhang Yuzu, etc., created calligraphy works and donated books, manuscripts, teaching aids and other precious objects related to the Westward Relocation, telling the story of the westward relocation in the form of calligraphy creation and physical display, vividly showing the pioneering process of the westward relocation to the teachers and students.

From September 7 to 12, 2018, a series of medical activities, including free medical consultation, lectures on sports and health and physique test, were co-organized by the Department of Retirement Affairs, the University Hospital, the Sports Center and the Ruiquan Provide for the Aged, providing guidance to retired faculty on rational diet and sports, assisting them to scientifically manage their bodies and enjoy a healthy life.

The Department of Retirement Affairs will further deepen the ideological and cultural construction of the retired, organize positive activities, assist young teachers and students to the publicity and study of the Westward Relocation Spirit with the help of the retired, reinforce their dreams and beliefs, and make more contributes to the inheritance and promotion of the spirit of westward relocation.
